Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Night Out For You “Experience”?

An Experience is a customized day or evening planned and funded by NOFY for an adult undergoing cancer treatment as a gift of joy to allow that individual to feel like him/herself again and to take a few hours off from cancer.

What are examples of activities that recipients have done on his/her Experience?

The focus of a recipient’s Experience should be whatever activity brings that person joy and allows him/her to have something to look forward to. Accordingly, this will vary from person to person. Some common ideas for Experiences completed to date have ranged from spa treatments, sporting events, musical or comedy shows, outdoor activities, day trips, and many more. If unsure about a specific suggested activity, please reach out to NOFY at request@nightoutforyou.org.

Who is eligible to receive a Night Out For You Experience?

Any adult age 18 and older, who is currently undergoing active treatment for cancer

(i.e. chemotherapy, radiation, pending surgery, etc.), and has not received a previous NOFY Experience is eligible.

Since NOFY Experiences are intended to bring joy and something to look forward to while in the midst of active cancer treatment, NOFY’s mission does not include Experiences for individuals who have completed active cancer treatment and/or are solely receiving hormone therapy following the completion of active treatment.  For questions on eligibility, please reach out to NOFY at request@nightoutforyou.org

How does an adult with cancer request a Night Out For You Experience?

Please complete the NOFY Experience Request Form by clicking the “Request an Experience” button on our homepage. A recipient will be asked for contact & related information, a primary and backup idea for the focused activity of an Experience, and a list of requested attendees. The recipient and all attendees will also be asked to confirm certain provisions with respect to receiving a NOFY Experience (e.g. COVID-19 waiver).

Can I nominate an adult I know who is in treatment for cancer and complete the NOFY Experience Request Form on his/her behalf?

A recipient must be the responsible party to complete the Experience Request Form in order to legally agree to NOFY provisions contained within that agreement. However, once the Experience Request Form is completed, a recipient may ask another friend or family member to be the primary point of contact in planning the Experience with NOFY team members.

Who may accompany a recipient on his/her Experience?

A recipient’s loved ones are encouraged to attend an Experience. Some recipients opt to include a spouse or close friend only, others include a small group of family members / close friends, while still others include extended families. Depending on cost & other logistical considerations for the recipient’s requested activity, the specific number of attendees varies. For specific questions on Experience attendees, please reach out to NOFY at request@nightoutforyou.org.

Your organization is named Night Out For You. Is an Experience required to occur only at night? Also, does an Experience occur over one night only or can it span a longer period of time?

An Experience can take place at whichever time during the day or night is appropriate for the recipient’s requested activity. Night Out For You will plan and fund an Experience covering one calendar day or night. Occasionally, recipients opt to extend their NOFY Experience over a longer period of time, and do so at their own expense.
